On route to Arles

We set off early and followed the N7 going south, heading for a site on the outskirts of Arles.
On the way we drove through the Chateauneuf du Pape wine growing area.
One thought struck me, it looked to me that all the available land was cultivated for wine growing for a far as one could see.... so why was wine under Chateauneuf du Pape label so expensive? 
Apparently, the region is restricted under the AOC rules. Their low yields are critical for producing a good robust wine, a cut above the rest. That's what they say... I must say, I do like a good Chateauneuf du Pape wine... If you are interested, have a look at the website Wine Cellar Insider.....
